Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate
A thickener that turns water into a smooth gel and stops creams from splitting.
What it does
It’s a synthetic polymer that swells when it meets water. That builds a light gel and holds oil droplets in place, so a lotion stays smooth instead of splitting.
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2017) assessed 21 related polymers that products use to thicken water, keep mixtures stable and spread solids evenly. Each of these is named in their conclusion. They were concerned about leftover starting materials such as acrylamide and asked makers to keep impurities low. They judged all 21 safe as used.Becker 2017 · Cosmetic Ingredient Review ↗
