Disodium EDTA

Disodium EDTA · Tetrasodium EDTA

A chelating agent that grabs stray metal ions in a formula so it stays stable and preservatives keep working.

What it does

Disodium EDTA is a chelator: it binds trace metal ions (from water, packaging, or raw materials) that would otherwise speed up spoilage, discoloration, and the breakdown of actives. It also makes preservative systems more effective, so less preservative is needed overall. It is used at very low levels and sits in the formula to protect it, not to do anything on the skin itself.

Also known as

edetate disodium, edta
