Ethyl Ferulate

Ethyl FerulateAntioxidant

The ethyl ester of ferulic acid — an oil-soluble antioxidant used to stabilize other antioxidants in a formula.

What it does

Ethyl ferulate is the ethyl ester of ferulic acid. Esterification makes the molecule oil-soluble, so it can be carried in anhydrous or oil-phase formulas where free ferulic acid would not stay in solution. Like ferulic acid itself, it acts as an antioxidant in the formula and is most often used to extend the working life of other antioxidants (notably vitamin C and vitamin E) by reducing their oxidation in the bottle and on the skin.
