Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate

Galactomyces Ferment FiltrateHydrator

Fermented yeast filtrate — the SK-II 'pitera' family. Lightweight humectant essence with mild barrier and antioxidant effects.

What it does

Galactomyces ferment filtrate is what most K-beauty + J-beauty essences are built around. The fermentation process produces a complex of amino acids, vitamins, and organic acids that, in clinical studies, modestly improve hydration and surface evenness. The evidence base is thinner than for niacinamide or vitamin C — most studies are small and brand-funded — but galactomyces remains a defensible humectant + supportive layer.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusThe traditional K-beauty 10-step layering approach (oil cleanser → foam cleanser → toner → essence → serum → ampoule → sheet mask → eye cream → moisturizer → SPF) is fully compatible with Western actives but not necessary for results. Adding more steps does not equal more efficacy.Draelos 2018 · Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology
