Glyceryl Dioleate

Glyceryl DioleateBarrier

An oily ingredient made from glycerin and oleic acid that softens skin.

What it does

It’s glycerin joined to two oleic acids, the main fatty acid in olive oil. It softens skin and helps oil-based formulas spread.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers’ 2007 report covered glyceryl dibehenate, glyceryl dioleate and related diesters, which products use to soften skin. A mix containing glyceryl dibehenate didn’t irritate in a 48-hour patch test, and the data showed the 1,3 form of these diesters doesn’t irritate or cause allergy. Some forms thickened the skin’s outer layer in mouse studies, so they asked makers to check each product for that during testing. They judged the group safe as used, and confirmed it in 2023.Cosmetic 2007 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
