So
Soybean Polypeptide
Glycine Max Polypeptide · Glycine Max (Soybean) Polypeptide
Pieces of soybean protein, added as a skin conditioner.
What it does
It’s a fraction separated from soybean protein, made of chains of amino acids smaller than the whole protein. It’s close to hydrolyzed soy protein, but a separate ingredient.
The EU’s ingredient database lists it as a skin conditioner, its general term for an ingredient that keeps skin in good condition.European Commission, CosIng (© European Union, CC BY 4.0) · uses put in plain words by Drop ↗
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2023) judged six soy proteins and peptides, soybean polypeptide among them, safe as used; products use them to condition skin and hair. Soy is a known food allergen. The reviewers didn’t expect skin use to set off that allergy: these dissolve in water, don’t pass through skin, and are too small to trigger it. One case report described rosacea worsening after soy face products.Burnett 2023 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
Graded per the methodology: strong · moderate · emerging · expert consensus. A weak source on a strong claim gets the weaker label.
