Isopropyl Isostearate
Isopropyl IsostearateBarrier
A light, fast-spreading oil that softens skin.
What it does
It’s isostearic acid joined to isopropyl alcohol, which makes a thin, light oil. It softens skin, helps a product glide on, and binds pressed powders.
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2015) assessed 237 alkyl esters, whose most common job in products is conditioning skin. Their index lists cetearyl isononanoate, isostearyl isostearate, lauryl laurate, isoamyl laurate, hexyl laurate, decyl oleate and isopropyl isostearate under that report. They judged them safe as used, in products made not to irritate.Fiume 2015 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
