Laminaria Ochroleuca Extract

Laminaria Ochroleuca ExtractHydrator

A brown kelp extract added to condition skin. Little research tests what it does on skin.

What it does

It comes from Laminaria ochroleuca, a kelp that grows off the Atlantic coasts of Europe. The EU lists it as a skin conditioner.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2026) assessed 82 ingredients from brown seaweeds, which products use most often to condition skin. They judged 68 safe as used, Cladosiphon okamuranus, Fucus vesiculosus and Laminaria ochroleuca extracts among them, and found too little data to judge the other 14. They noted that heavy metals, arsenic and pesticide residues may be present, and asked makers to keep them low.Ferguson 2026 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
