Lecithin · Hydrogenated LecithinBarrier
A phospholipid (often soy- or sunflower-derived) that emulsifies oil and water and conditions skin with a barrier-like structure.
What it does
Lecithin is a natural phospholipid — the same class of molecule that builds cell membranes. In formulas it works as an emulsifier, holding oil and water together, and it can help carry other ingredients. Its barrier-like structure also gives a conditioning, softening feel. The hydrogenated version is more stable and common in modern formulas. Its role is structure and feel, not a standalone active.
Also known as
phosphatidylcholine
