Linseed Oil

Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed OilBarrier

Flaxseed oil, a plant oil rich in an omega-3 fatty acid, added to soften skin.

What it does

It’s the oil from flax seeds, and much of its fat is alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3. On skin it works like other plant oils, softening and adding slip.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2017) judged 244 plant oils and butters safe as used. Their list names baobab, babassu, cloudberry and linseed oils, kokum, murumuru and cupuaçu butters, and hydrogenated vegetable oil. They say oils are used to soften skin and seal in moisture. They asked makers to limit pesticide residues and heavy metals.Burnett 2017 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
