Lysolecithin

A lecithin-based emulsifier that mixes more easily with water.

What it does

It’s lecithin with one of its two fatty chains removed, which makes it mix more easily with water.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2020) assessed 17 phosphoglycerides; their index lists phospholipids and lysolecithin under that report. They say these mainly condition skin and hair and help oil and water mix, at up to 50%. Phospholipids have effects inside the body, but the reviewers say putting phospholipid ingredients on skin does not reproduce them. They judged all 17 safe as used in cosmetics.Johnson 2020 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
