Magnesium Sulfate

Magnesium Sulfate

A mineral salt (Epsom salt) used in cosmetics mainly to thicken and stabilize water-in-oil emulsions.

What it does

Magnesium sulfate, the same compound as Epsom salt, is used in skincare as a viscosity and stability aid. In water-in-oil creams a small amount of this salt helps lock the emulsion together and control thickness, giving a more stable product. It is a formulation tool rather than a skin active in these products.
