Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12

Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12Active

A peptide modeled on a piece of elastin. Little research tests what it does on skin.

What it does

It’s a chain of six amino acids that matches a repeating piece of elastin, the protein that lets skin spring back, with a fatty acid attached.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2018) assessed a small group of peptides used to condition skin, palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 among them. Products typically hold under 10 parts per million. A mixture with 200 ppm of it didn’t irritate or cause allergy in repeat patch tests on people. Given the low amounts and clean safety tests, they judged it safe as used. Their verdict covers only the VGVAPG form, an elastin peptide.Johnson 2018 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗

Graded per the methodology: strong · moderate · emerging · expert consensus. A weak source on a strong claim gets the weaker label.
