PEG-150 Distearate
PEG-150 Distearate
Thickens washes and helps keep oil and water mixed.
What it does
It’s a long PEG chain with stearic acid, a fatty acid, on each end. It’s there for texture, not to change your skin.
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2015) assessed 55 PEG diesters, mostly used as surfactants that cleanse or help oil and water mix. PEG-150 distearate had the most uses, 690, mostly in bath products, cleansers and shampoos. It’s used at up to 33.2% in skin cleansers. They judged all 55 safe in products made not to irritate. They asked makers to limit 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide impurities.Becker 2015 · Cosmetic Ingredient Review ↗
