PEG-8 Laurate

PEG-8 Laurate

A PEG emulsifier that blends oils into water and helps cleansers rinse clean.

What it does

It’s lauric acid, a coconut-type fatty acid, joined to a short PEG chain. It helps oil and water blend and helps cleansers rinse clean.

The EU’s ingredient database lists it as an emulsifier (helps oil and water mix) and a cleanser (helps keep skin clean).European Commission, CosIng (© European Union, CC BY 4.0) · uses put in plain words by Drop ↗

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2000) judged PEG laurates, PEG-8 laurate among them, safe in cosmetics at up to 25%. Studies on intact skin found no allergy or body-wide harm. They were concerned about damaged skin, because burn patients treated with a PEG cream had allergic reactions and kidney harm. They asked makers to remove 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide, possible impurities.Lanigan 2000 · Cosmetic Ingredient Review ↗
