Physalis Angulata (Ground Cherry) Extract

Physalis Angulata ExtractAntioxidant

Tropical ground cherry extract containing physalins and polyphenols; used as an antioxidant and soothing botanical in some formulas.

What it does

Physalis angulata (ground cherry or cutleaf groundcherry) is a tropical herb whose extract contains physalins — a class of biologically active withanolide-type compounds — along with kaempferol, quercetin, and other polyphenolic antioxidants. In vitro research documents anti-inflammatory activity via inhibition of NF-κB and related signaling pathways. This makes it an appealing soothing/antioxidant botanical additive in skincare. Topical RCT data for the cosmetic extract is limited; claims in products draw on the in vitro and traditional-use literature. Well-tolerated at typical cosmetic concentrations.
