Potassium Hydroxide
Potassium Hydroxide
A strong base used in trace amounts to adjust pH — and, in some cleansers, to turn oils into a gentle soap.
What it does
Potassium hydroxide is a pH adjuster much like sodium hydroxide. In most products it appears in tiny, already-neutralized amounts to set the right pH. In certain cleansers it reacts with fatty acids to form a mild liquid soap. Seeing it on a label is normal and not a concern on its own.
Also known as
koh, potassium hydrate
