Potassium Sorbate
Potassium Sorbate
Salt of sorbic acid. Antifungal preservative for low-pH formulations; often paired with sodium benzoate.
What it does
Potassium sorbate is the antifungal half of the sodium benzoate / potassium sorbate preservative pair common in natural-cosmetic formulations. It works best below pH 5 and is generally well tolerated. By itself it's not enough to cover bacterial growth — that's why you typically see it alongside another preservative.
