Bee-made royal jelly. In one lab study it boosted collagen genes in skin cells; skin benefit is untested.
What it does
Royal jelly is a secretion honeybees make to feed their larvae. In one study, royal jelly in a carrier helped skin cells grow and raised collagen genes in a dish. On volunteers, its main fatty acid reached the outer skin layer. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory reputation comes from other research. It contains proteins known to be allergens, though reported reactions have mostly come from eating it.

emergingResearchers at the skincare company APIVITA built a carrier for royal jelly. In skin cells in a dish, it helped fibroblasts grow and raised collagen and other skin-repair genes. On volunteers' skin, its main fatty acid, 10-HDA, reached the outer layer about as well as plain royal jelly did. Royal jelly's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory reputation comes from other studies the paper cites.Spanidi 2022 · Pharmaceuticals (Basel) ↗ Graded per the methodology: strong · moderate · emerging · expert consensus.
