Silica Dimethyl Silylate
Silica Dimethyl Silylate
Silica powder treated so it repels water. It thickens oils and keeps powders loose.
What it does
It’s silica, a fine mineral powder, with a silicone bonded to its surface so it repels water. Formulas use it to thicken oily and silicone bases, keep powders from clumping and add bulk.
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2013) assessed four silylates and siloxysilicates, which products use to bind, add slip, condition skin or thicken. Safety tests showed no skin irritation or allergy, and these large, inert molecules are unlikely to be absorbed. They judged all four safe as used in products made and delivered so they don’t irritate the airways or cause allergy there.Becker 2013 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
