Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate
Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate
A cleanser that lifts away oil and dirt with a lather.
What it does
It’s made by joining lauric acid, a fatty acid, to glutamic acid, as a sodium salt. It’s there to clean, not to change your skin.
The evidence, graded
expert consensusUS safety reviewers (2017) looked at 115 ingredients made from amino acids, which condition skin and hair or cleanse. Their index lists this one under that report. The skin irritation and allergy tests they relied on were of the two used at the highest strengths, lauroyl lysine and sodium lauroyl glutamate. They judged the group safe as used, as long as the product is made not to irritate.Burnett 2017 · International Journal of Toxicology ↗
