What it does
Tromethamine (TRIS) is a mild base used to neutralize acidic ingredients and buffer a formula so its pH stays steady. You'll often see it alongside carbomer-type thickeners, which need neutralizing to gel properly. It is a small-quantity formulation helper, not an active.
