Vinyl Dimethicone

Vinyl Dimethicone

A silicone that thickens silicone blends.

What it does

It’s a silicone with small reactive groups along its chain. Products use it to thicken silicone blends and to set how runny they are.

The evidence, graded

expert consensusUS safety reviewers (final amended report, 2022) assessed 30 dimethicone and methicone silicones, most used to condition skin and hair. Stearyl, cetyl and vinyl dimethicone, amodimethicone and methicone are named in their conclusion. They judged all 30 safe as used in products made to be non-irritating. They had too little data to judge airbrush sprays.Raj 2022 · Cosmetic Ingredient Review ↗
