Used to calm redness and irritation. In one double-blind test, yarrow steeped in oil brought deliberately irritated skin back to normal within a week. Lab and mouse studies also show calming effects, though which compounds do the work is not known.
The evidence, graded
emergingIn one double-blind study, volunteers' skin was irritated on purpose with a detergent, then treated for a week with yarrow steeped in olive or sunflower oil. Redness, moisture and skin pH went back to their starting values. A review of yarrow finds calming effects in cells and mice, but says the compounds behind them are not known. It also names two compounds in yarrow's oil as confirmed skin allergens, though yarrow creams passed patch tests.Strzępek-Gomółka 2021 · Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity ↗
