Castor Oil
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil · Ricinus CommunisBarrier
Thick, viscous oil dominated by ricinoleic acid. Common in lip balms and lash conditioners.
What it does
Castor oil is around 90% ricinoleic acid, an unusual fatty acid that gives the oil its high viscosity and slight occlusive feel. Most common in lip balms, brow and lash oils, and body balms where the heavy slip is a feature. On the face it can feel sticky and is sometimes flagged as comedogenic, though the evidence on castor specifically is mixed.
