Chamomile Extract
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract · Chamomilla Recutita ExtractSoothing
Flower extract with bisabolol and chamazulene. Calming on sensitive and rosacea-prone skin.
What it does
German chamomile contains bisabolol and chamazulene, both with measurable soothing activity. Often used in formulations targeting redness, sensitivity, and post-procedure recovery. The blue chamomile essential oil owes its color to chamazulene. Generally well tolerated; the same Asteraceae cross-reactivity caveat as calendula applies.
The evidence, graded
strongThe best-known controlled trial of a chamomile cream in atopic eczema found mild superiority over 0.5% hydrocortisone after two weeks, but only a marginal difference against the vehicle placebo. Chamomile's soothing reputation rests on weaker clinical ground than its popularity suggests.Patzelt-Wenczler 2000 · European journal of medical research ↗
