Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract
Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower ExtractAntioxidant
Hibiscus flower extract rich in anthocyanins; in vitro studies show antioxidant activity and inhibition of collagenase and tyrosinase.
What it does
Hibiscus (roselle) extract contains natural plant pigments and antioxidants. In lab tests it blocks UV-triggered cell damage, cuts enzymes that break down collagen, and inhibits the enzyme that drives skin pigmentation. These are the same targets that brightening and firming actives work on. Evidence is in vitro; no human trials have been done.
The evidence, graded
emergingHibiscus calyx extract showed several anti-aging and brightening effects in lab studies. It neutralised UV-triggered free radicals, reduced enzymes that break down collagen, boosted collagen in skin cells, and blocked the enzyme that drives melanin production (tyrosinase). All effects were seen at non-toxic doses in cell-based tests.Li 2020 · J Sci Food Agric ↗
