Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters

Hydrolyzed Jojoba EstersBarrier

A water-dispersible form of jojoba-derived esters used as a moisturizing and texture-improving ingredient.

What it does

Acts as an emollient to soften skin. A small pilot study was led by its maker. In it, a lotion with glycerin plus hydrolyzed jojoba esters let less water escape from the skin than glycerin alone, for 24 hours. It is lighter than full jojoba oil.

The evidence, graded

moderateOne small pilot study was led by the company that makes this ingredient. In it, a lotion with 3.75% glycerin and 1.25% hydrolyzed jojoba esters let less water escape through the skin than glycerin alone, at 8 and 24 hours. It was tested on the lower leg, measured by water loss and expert grading. The abstract does not give the number of people.Meyer 2008 · Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology ↗
