Biotin
B-complex vitamin included in skincare for its association with nail and hair health; topical evidence for skin benefits is limited.
What it does
Biotin (vitamin B7) is a water-soluble B vitamin needed for fat synthesis and energy. Most clear evidence for biotin comes from oral use — for brittle nails and hair loss. In skin care, biotin is added on the basis that it may support fat metabolism and the skin barrier. Topical biotin has low skin absorption. At typical cosmetic amounts, it is a supporting ingredient, not a primary active. Products with biotin are safe for most skin types.
