Undaria Pinnatifida ExtractBarrier

Wakame seaweed extract whose fucoidan polysaccharide supports epidermal barrier repair by promoting keratinocyte differentiation.

What it does

Wakame seaweed extract contains fucoidan, a plant sugar with skin-conditioning properties. In animal models, fucoidan repaired barrier damage by prompting skin cells to mature and build the outer skin layer. Cell studies identified a receptor that fucoidan activates to trigger this maturation process. The evidence is from lab and animal models; human clinical trials are not yet available.

The evidence, graded

emergingWakame fucoidan repaired a disrupted skin barrier in an animal model. In skin cell studies, it activated a receptor that triggers skin cell maturation, which is how the barrier is built. Multiple signalling pathways were involved, supporting a multi-target mechanism for barrier repair.Chen 2019 · Mar Drugs
