AsiaticosideSoothing

Centella asiatica triterpene. The wound-healing-supportive fraction within the centella mix.

What it does

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes in centella asiatica (the others are madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid). Asiaticoside specifically has the strongest documented support for wound-healing activity in topical research — it's part of why centella is used in post-procedure recovery and barrier-supportive formulations. Generally well tolerated; same Asteraceae cross-reactivity caveat as the broader centella family.

The evidence, graded

strongRosacea-prone skin often reacts poorly to retinoids during initiation, with stinging, burning, and flushing. Niacinamide, azelaic acid, and barrier repair are more commonly tolerated as first-line actives.van 2015 · Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
expert consensusGinseng extracts (red, white, fermented) provide antioxidant and collagen-supportive benefits and pair well with retinoids without compounding irritation. Common in Korean anti-aging routines layered alongside retinol.Cho 2009 · Journal of Medicinal Food
expert consensusThe traditional K-beauty 10-step layering approach (oil cleanser → foam cleanser → toner → essence → serum → ampoule → sheet mask → eye cream → moisturizer → SPF) is fully compatible with Western actives but not necessary for results. Adding more steps does not equal more efficacy.Draelos 2018 · Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology
